You can export the contents of a view in table structure to Microsoft Excel 2003, Excel 2007, Excel 2010 and CSV formats. You can move elements from one workspace or installation to another.
Before you begin
For regular users, the Export to Excel menu option from table view and dynamic table view is available only if the administrator has not disabled the export function.
▪ To export elements, you must be an administrator.
▪ You can select field separator corresponding to your regional computer settings from user name > Preferences > Miscellaneous.
About this task
The CSV format is the default option for export. If you use a Microsoft Excel file, you can export 32767 characters for each cell. There is no limit to export on the number of characters in a cell in the CSV format. The attribute types File, Time Grid and History cannot be exported or imported. The export and import of the attribute types Link, Link List and Matrix attribute types require special handling.
Procedure
1 Click Display and select a module view in which you find the elements you want to export.
2 Select the Table structure.
3 Optional: Create a filter to export a subset of the elements or to export a subset of the attributes.
4 On the View toolbar, click Export.
If the number of cells exceeds the limit, the option to export to Microsoft Excel 2003 is unavailable due to memory constraints. The default limit is 20000.
You can change this default limit in the application settings on the SQL page of the Advanced menu. Update the value of the setting:
update projectsetting set value='30000' where name='excel.export.limit'
5 Click Open to open the file and view or edit its content.
If the Microsoft Excel file opens in a web browser rather than in Microsoft Excel, do this:
▪ Open Windows Explorer, and then select Tools > Folder Options > File Types.
