Welcome : Release notes : New features and enhancements in Focal Point version 7.5.0

New features and enhancements in Focal Point version 7.5.0
The details of the enhancements are given below:
JSON-based REST API
Focal Point version 7.5 introduces a fully-fledged REST API based on the JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) format. The JSON-based API is functionally equivalent to the existing XML-based API but is lightweight, easier to transmit and parse, and less verbose. In addition to the performance benefits, the JSON-based API provides functionality improvements. Unlike the XML based API, the specification for the PUT and POST payload for the JSON-based API is similar to the GET response for the same attribute. The JSON-based API also makes it easier to develop integrations with third-party products especially when those products expose only JSON-based API. For more information, see JSON REST API reference.
Kanban board enhancements
Focal Point version 7.5 includes an updated Kanban board that improves the visualization and workflow of the cards. The optimal layout of the cards ensures better space management. You can configure the width and height of the cards and also arrange the attributes in a grid structure within each card. The users can also select any numeric attribute to display as the work-in-progress value for each card. Work-in-progress data can be rolled up column-wise and row-wise. The users are provided with visual indicators whenever the rolled-up values go outside the configured limits for upper and lower thresholds.
Reporting enhancements
Focal Point version 7.5 introduces the ability to embed JasperReports into Focal Point. JasperReports is an open source Java reporting tool that can write to a variety of targets, such as: a screen, printer, PDF, HTML, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point, RTF, ODT, comma-separated value (CSV) or XML file. As a first step, report templates should be designed in the open source Jaspersoft Studio by using the Focal Point REST API (both JSON and XML based APIs are supported). Uploading the report templates and creating reports from Focal Point is similar to the existing embedded RPE reporting. The report templates can be uploaded into Focal Point by using the Administration > General > Report Templates menu. After a JASPER template is added to Focal Point, the template can be used to create both manual and scheduled reports by using the workspace level Generate Report menu option. For more information, see Creating report templates by using JasperReports.
New home page editor
The new home page editor provides an inline editing capability that provides a better user experience by requiring fewer mouse clicks and offering improved performance. The new UI provides a rich experience for the home page operations such as adding a new window, changing the widget type, changing the display type, and selecting the display elements or attributes.
Multi-module tree-table visualization
Focal Point version 7.5 introduces the ability to display, edit, and create elements that belong to multiple modules by using a single Tree-Table view. The Tree-Table view can be setup by using the link and linklist relationships that are available in the view. The elements that belong to the linked modules are loaded into the Tree-Table view only when required, based on the hierarchy of the linked relationships.
Road mapping enhancements
Focal Point version 7.5 provides the following enhancements to the Gantt view.
The elements in a Gantt chart can be grouped by using any single-value attribute. With this enhancement it is now possible to visualize a roadmap that shows the relationships between the entities that belong to 3 different levels. As an example, you can display a roadmap of projects with links to features, and also grouped by the portfolios the projects belong to.
The users can maximize the Gantt view as a display overlay or download the view as an image.
Save and retrieve attribute statistic settings
The Attribute Statistics view delivers analytics capability about Focal Point entities by using reports and charts. Focal Point users often have to use multiple settings to analyze and visualize the data. The new capability allows the users to save these settings under different names and later retrieve the settings by selecting from a drop down menu. The settings saved by a normal user are only accessible to that user. However, an administrator can save their settings as global settings, which are then available to all users.
File attribute security
Focal Point version 7.5 offers enhanced security to the file attributes by preventing unrestricted file upload. The restriction can be setup by specifying lists of allowed and forbidden Mime types. The list of allowed types is specified at the global security level whereas the list of forbidden types is specified at the individual file attribute level.
Miscellaneous enhancements
The following miscellaneous enhancements are included in Focal Point version 7.5:
Users can now maximize the view port in all the common Display and Prioritize views.
Focal Point version 7.5 includes a new template-based setting that defines the individual row and column header cell styles of a matrix attribute.
Users can now use a single email to send links to multiple elements by selecting multiple elements in the Tree view.
Users can choose to display only the elements linked from the first-level axis to the second-level axis in a parallel coordinates view.
Users can copy and paste data from Microsoft Excel into a matrix attribute.
Apache Tomcat version 9.0 is now supported. The Tomcat version that is embedded in the installer is also upgraded to version 9.0.
PostgreSQL version 13 is now supported as an application database.
Windows Server 2019 is now supported as an application platform.
