Resolving verification conflicts
As you key entries in Verification mode, the Data Entry Player performs comparisons to the entries for the same variable that were keyed in Initial Entry mode. When a Verification entry matches one made for the same variable in Initial Entry, the Data Entry Player functions normally and moves you to the next entry to be keyed. When a comparison yields a conflict between what was first keyed in Initial Entry, and subsequently in Verification, you are prompted to choose the correct entry to be included in the data.
When this occurs the Data Entry Player will:
Halt movement
All movement within the Data Entry Player stops, preventing you from keying more variables before realizing that an error has occurred.
Alert tone
The tone emitted by Data Entry Player occurs at the volume level that is set on your workstation. To adjust the volume of the alert tone, adjust the workstation’s volume setting.
Entry Verification dialog
The Entry Verification dialog window notifies you that an entry conflict exists, identifies the variable and question text where the conflict occurs, displays the entries that are in conflict, and provides a means to either select a correct entry from among the choices given, or re-key the entry.
When displaying entries that are in conflict, you can review both the entry made by the Initial Entry operator as well as the entry that you just keyed in Verification mode. The Initial Entry data appears on the left-hand side of the dialog; the Verification data appears on the right side of the dialog.
If the conflict occurs for a categorical question, the dialog displays the full response list for each of the two entries for comparison purposes. If the conflict occurs for a Numeric, Text, DateTime, or Boolean question, the dialog displays both entries in full for comparison purposes.
Resolving a verification conflict
Two controls are available beneath the Initial Entry and Verification entries. These controls allow you to accept one of the entry sets as data.
When you determine that Initial Entry data is correct, click Accept Initial Entry, or press Alt+I or F7. When selected, the entry made in Verification mode is ignored and the entry made in Initial Entry mode carries through as data.
When you determine that your own entry (made in Verification mode) is correct, click Accept Verification Entry, or press Alt+V or F8. When selected, the entry made in Initial Entry is overwritten by the entry made in Verification mode.
Once a selection is made, the dialog disappears and you can resume keying at the next variable that is available for verification keying.
Re-keying an entry
In some cases, you may determine that neither the entry made in Initial Entry mode nor your own entry in Verification mode are correct. The conflict dialog allows the you to re-key from the Entry Panel in the Data Entry Player interface.
To re-key, you must click Re-enter Value from the conflict dialog, or press Alt+R or Esc, while the dialog is in view. Once selected, the dialog disappears and you are returned to the main Data Entry Player window where you can edit within the Entry Panel.
If an entry is re-keyed, and is still in conflict with the entry made during Initial Entry, you need to resolve the conflict using the conflict dialog. However, you must select your own entry as the correct entry before proceeding to the next variable that is available for verification keying.
