Copying and pasting questions
You can copy and paste questions within a questionnaire or between questionnaires. The effect of copying and pasting a question depends on whether you use the Routings pane or the Questions pane.
Copying questions in the Routings pane
You can copy and paste a question within the same routing in the Routings pane. This creates a new question in the questionnaire file, with a different name.
You can also use the Routings pane to copy questions from one routing to another, so that the same question appears in two different routing contexts, such as paper and web. For example, if you have created a routing called Web_Survey for a web questionnaire and added all your questions, and you now want to create a similar questionnaire for output on paper, you can create a new routing called Paper_Survey and copy all the questions, or selected questions, from the web to the paper routing. When you copy a question between routings in the Routings pane, only one instance of the copied question exists in the questionnaire file.
Copying questions in the Questions pane
You can also copy questions using the Questions pane. This creates two separate instances of the question, which you can then modify as required. For example, suppose you have created a grid question called CoffeeFrequency with the question text How often do you drink the following kinds of coffee? with a list of coffees and a frequency list, and you want to create a similar question for teas. You may find it easier to create a copy of the coffee question, rename it TeaFrequency, and replace the list of coffees with a list of teas.
Note If you want to create a number of different questions that use the same response list, rather than copy the questions, you may find it useful to create a shared response list and attach it to the questions. For more information, see
Creating shared lists of responses.
