This topic provides answers to some frequently asked questions about working with UNICOM Intelligence Author.
Is there a limit to how long a question name can be?
Question names in UNICOM Intelligence Author must be unique, cannot contain more than 80 characters, cannot be empty, and can contain only letters, numbers, and the characters _ @ $ # . The first character must be a letter or _.
How can I tell which question type I should use?

Can I change a question's type after I create it?
The only question types that you can change are single and multiple response questions. Choose the Type option in the Properties tab and select One Choice only or Multiple Choice to change a multiple response question to a single response question or vice versa. For other question types, you need to delete the question and add it again using the correct question type.
Can I use the same responses in more than one question?
Yes. One way to do this is to create a shared list of responses and attach the list to all the relevant questions. For more information, see
Creating shared lists of responses. Another method is to use the responses given by a respondent to one question as the response list for another question, using the Display option in the Properties tab.
How can I check that a question will work as I intend it to, without activating the interview?
You can choose one of the preview options to see how a selected question or the entire questionnaire will appear. For more information, see

Why is there a folder called MyQuestionnaireFile_files in the folder where I saved my questionnaire file?
When you save a questionnaire file, UNICOM Intelligence Author adds this folder to store template files and image files that you attach to the questionnaire. A copy of your .
mdd file is also saved to this folder when you activate the file, so that the activation process can upload all the required files to UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Server Admin. For more information, see

When installed on Windows Vista or 7, the UNICOM Intelligence Author layout files and IOM logs are not in the C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local directory. Why is this?
When UNICOM Intelligence Author is installed in a Windows Vista or 7 environment, the associated layout files and IOM logs are in the C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming directory.
