When I create a derived single response variable using an expression, is it necessary to specify the range as [1..1] in the definition of the variable?
When you create a derived variable using an expression, the case data for the variable is defined by the expression(s) you define and specifying the range will not affect the variable's case data. However, if you do not specify the range, the variable will be defined in the output metadata as a multiple response variable. Therefore, you should normally specify the range for the variable, so that it is defined correctly in the output metadata.
What format should I use for the dates in a range expression for a date variable?
If you enter the month as a number, you should use one of the following formats:
▪United States English date formatting (in which the month is specified before the day). For example, in this format 07-12-05 represents 12th July 2005.
▪The international standard YYYY-MM-DD format, where YYYY is the year, MM is the month between 01 (January) and 12 (December), and DD is the day (between 1 and 31). For example, in this format 2005-07-12 represents 12th July 2005.
