Preventing 403 and 401 errors when working with client certificates and SSL
The section provides information on preventing 403 and 401 errors that may be encountered when working with client certificates and SSL.
403 errors
These errors are typically the result of the Web Server being set to Require Client Certificates over SSL. To resolve this issue in the UNICOM Intelligence applications, the Require Client Certificates setting needs to be explicitly disabled for the UNICOM Intelligence Author and UNICOM Intelligence Reporter*.application files. See the MSDN article How to make ClickOnce work over SSL requiring client certificates for more information.
401 errors
These errors are typically the result of the Enable Anonymous Access setting not being enabled in Internet Information Services (IIS) on each client computer. To enable the setting:
1 Open IIS, and find the UNICOM Intelligence Author and UNICOM Intelligence Reporter*.application files.
2 Right click each file, and then click Properties > Directory Security > File Security > Edit. This open the Authentication Methods dialog.
3 Select Enable anonymous access, and then enter the Windows user account User name and Password.
