Support for IPV4 and IPV6
The UNICOM Intelligence servers support Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPV6). IPV6 is the latest revision of the Internet Protocol, and supports 128-bit addresses. Each UNICOM Intelligence server supports both IPV4 and IPV6. The protocols cannot currently be used simultaneously.
Differences between IPV4 and IPV6
IPV4 handles addresses as 32-bit decimal values. The addresses are written as sets of four numbers that are separated by periods. Each number can be zero to 255. For example, 1.125.12.360 could be an IP address.
IPV6 handles addresses as 128-bit hexadecimal values that are separated by colons. Each colon separates a 16-bit field. For example, 3ffe:1900:4545:3:200:f8ff:fe21:67cf
Advantages of using IPV6 over IPV4
One advantage of employing IPV6 over IPV4 is the much larger pool of addresses that IPV6 provides. IPV6 also provides more efficient routing, more efficient packet processing, multicast support, simplified network configuration, support for new services, and improved security.
UNICOM Intelligence server behavior
The servers adhere to the following guidelines:
When the server only has IPv4 enabled, DPM will use IPv4.
When the server is enabled for both IPv4 and IPv6, DPM will use IPv4.
When the server only have IPv6 enabled, DPM will use IPv6.
