Setting up a GPS device
1 Connect the GPS device to the computer.
2 Install the appropriate third-party sensor driver on the GPS device.
3 Confirm that the GPS device is recognized by Microsoft Windows sensor management. In most cases, the GPS device is listed under the Windows Control Panel's Location and Other Sensors setting (Start > Control Panel > Location and Other Sensors).
When the GPS device is listed under the Windows Control Panel's Location and Other Sensors setting, it means that the device is recognized and successfully configured.
4 If the GPS device is not listed under Location and Other Sensors, check the Device Manager's Ports (COM & LPT) section (Start > Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT)).
When the GPS device is under Ports (COM & LPT), it means that the GPS device is not recognized by the Windows Sensor API. The GPS data must instead be read from a virtual COM port. In most cases, the third-party sensor driver can work around this issue.
