Setting up a GPS device
1 Connect the GPS device to the computer.
2 Install the appropriate third-party sensor driver on the GPS device.
3 Confirm that the GPS device is recognized by Microsoft Windows sensor management. In most cases, the GPS device is listed in the Windows Control Panel: Start > Control Panel > Location and Other Sensors.
When the GPS device is listed in the Windows Control Panel's Location and Other Sensors setting, it means that the device is recognized and successfully configured.
4 If the GPS device is not listed under Location and Other Sensors, check the Device Manager's Ports (COM & LPT) section: Start > Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT).
When the GPS device is under Ports (COM & LPT), it means that the GPS device is not recognized by the Windows Sensor API. The GPS data must instead be read from a virtual COM port. In most cases, the third-party sensor driver can work around this issue.
