Creating numeric questions
Use a numeric question when you want the respondent to be able to give only a numeric answer.
For information on creating numeric grids, see Creating a numeric response grid.
Creating a numeric question
1 Click Insert > Question > Numeric, or press Ctrl+F7.
The new question is displayed in the Routings pane and in the Design pane. It has an automatically generated name: see Automatically generated names.
2 Enter the question text to be displayed to respondents in the box under Name.
For example, "How many times a week do you buy a newspaper?"
Specifying additional question details in the Properties pane
See Specifying additional question details in the Properties pane.
Specifying the range
The Minimum and Maximum fields indicate the range of values that a respondent can enter. For example, you might want to restrict the respondent to entering a value from 1 to 10.
Specifying numeric type options
The Numeric Type field indicates whether the respondent must enter a whole number or a decimal. Select the required option from the list.
Specifying additional response details in the Design pane
1 Choose the Design pane.
2 Select Include for the Don’t Know, Refuse, or No Answer responses to add these to the question.
3 To use different text for the response, for example, “Can't decide” instead of “Don't know”, type the text in the appropriate Description field.
4 The Go To field shows that when the question has been asked, the questionnaire moves to the next question in the routing list. You can change this so that if the respondent chooses one of the special responses, the questionnaire jumps to a different question. Type in the question name or select it from the list.
When additional response details are defined for the questionnaire, and the questionnaire is then previewed on the Phone tab or activated, the keyboard shortcuts for the additional responses are presented as Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2, or Ctrl+3.
