UNICOM Intelligence Professional options
Use the UNICOM Intelligence Professional Options dialog to control the appearance and behavior of UNICOM Intelligence Professional.
To open the dialog, click Tools > Options.
Changing options
For numeric options, click the option, and then enter the new numeric value.
For options that have a limited number of values, click the list to select the value you want.
For options that require a file or folder name, you can either type the name, or click the button next to the option to select a file or folder from a list.
Specifying options when writing and testing mrScriptBasic (.mrs) files
When writing and testing mrScriptBasic (.mrs) files, you can specify additional options by using an initialization file with the same name and the .ini suffix, for example: filename.extension.ini.
You can specify the following options:
▪the Metadata Document (.mdd) to use with the script. The MDM document is created as in intrinsic variable called MDM in the script. This means that you do not need to use the CreateObject function to create an instance of the MDM document in the script. The Document opens in read-only mode; if you want to open it in another mode, such as read‑write, call the Document.Open method.
▪one or more type libraries to load for the script, to be used for enums
▪ the locale: both the input locale set with /li, and the output locale set with /lo?.
Example initialization file
[Options]
MDD=MyProject.mdd
TypeLib=MyTypeLib.dll
TypeLib=MyOtherTypeLid.dll
Locale=1049

Interview Browser options
Built-in Browser
Select the browser control to be used when using the built-in browser. The default is Microsoft Edge.
External Browser Arguments
(Applies only if Use Built-in Browser is False.) Any arguments to be added to the command that starts the external browser.
External Browser Automatic Page Refresh
(Applies only if Use Built-in Browser is False.) Specifies whether the browser refreshes automatically.
In most situations, True is the most useful option. It adds a script to the HTML page to force the automatic update. If the script causes issues, change the value to False: you then have to refresh the browser manually when each new page is posted.
The default value is True.
External Browser Path
(Applies only if Use Built-in Browser is False.) The path for the external browser in which you want to run the interviews.
Use Built-in Browser
Determines whether a running interview appears in the Browser pane or a standalone browser. For more information, see
Testing an interview.
Interview options
Activate Server or URL
Specifies the target UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Server cluster to use when you choose Activate from the UNICOM Intelligence Professional Tools menu. The value of this option depends on whether you are connected to the same local network as the cluster and have access to the FMRoot shared folder on the primary DPM server. If you are connected to the same local network, enter the name of the primary DPM server. If you are not connected to the same local network, enter the URL that you use to login to UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Server Admin on that cluster, for example:
http://<primary_dpm_server_name>/SPSSMR/DimensionNet/default.aspx
If you typically activate to only one cluster, and are connected to the same local network as that cluster, you can stop the activate Login dialog from appearing: enter the name of the primary DPM server, and then set
Show Login Dialog to False. For more information, see
Activating an interview.
Base Folder for Cache
The location for interview cache files when
Use In-Memory Cache is set to False. Typically, you should not need to change this option.

For example, to support debugging interview scripts that use the TabulationInterviewService to connect to the DDF, you can specify TransactionMode=2.
Debug Quotas: Data File Location
The quota data records file location.
Debug Quotas: Display Enabling Message
Determines whether UNICOM Intelligence Professional displays a warning message when you choose

Initially Show Metadata View
Determines whether UNICOM Intelligence Professional opens a metadata viewer when you open an interview script (.
mdd) file (see
Using the interview metadata viewer).
Routing Selection Mode
Determines whether the standard HTML player or the CATI HTML player is used to present the interview. The CATI HTML player allows the interview to be completed using only the keyboard. If you select FromRoutingContext, routing contexts called CATI use the CATI HTML player and all other routing contexts use the standard HTML player.
This option also determines the value of the InterviewMode that is available to the interview script as
IOM.Info.InterviewMode, and that is sometimes used for routing. The InterviewMode in UNICOM Intelligence Professional is determined by the “Routing Selection Mode”, and the Routing definition on the Routing tab.
Syntax for the routing definition
Routing(<routing_name>, <interviewing_mode>[ + <interviewing_mode>] ... )
<interviewing_mode> is one of the following: DataEntry, Local, Paper_Manual_Entry, Paper_Scanning, Phone, Web. To specify two or interviewing modes, separate them by using + (plus sign).
For example, for a routing that can be used with for local (CAPI), phone (CATI), and Web interviewing, use:
Routing(NewRouting, InterviewModes = Local + Phone + Web)
Forcing different players and InterviewModes for testing
The option can be used to force different players and InterviewModes for testing in UNICOM Intelligence Professional. The rules are as follows:
