New Variable dialog
Use the New Variable dialog to create a variable.
To open the New Variable dialog, click Variables > New, or press Ctrl+M.

Name
UNICOM Intelligence Reporter generates a name for the new variable. You can change this. The name must conform to the UNICOM Intelligence Reporter naming conventions.
Description
Enter a description for the variable as you want it to appear on your tables.
Data type
Defines the new variable’s type. When you are creating a copy of a variable, you must select the same type as the variable you are copying. The options are:
Boolean
Categorical
Date
Numeric (long)
Numeric (double)
Text

Based On
Type the syntax that defines the variable; for example, Favorite + spontaneous + prompted. Alternatively, define the variable using the dialog available from the Select button.
Select
Displays the Create New Variable Based On dialog, where you can enter your own formula for the variable.
Category list
The main section of the dialog displays a list of the categories in the variable, and other items that are part of the variable, for example, means, totals, or other items that you create.
Properties pane
Use the Properties pane to change the properties for categories and other items in a variable. ee Edit Variable dialog: Properties pane.
Script Pane
Use the Script pane to change the syntax for a variable. ee Edit Variable dialog: Script pane.
