Setting up performance monitor counters
Performance monitor counters are useful when monitoring performance or debugging problems.
An initial set of performance monitor counters for each tier is available in the DDL in the following folder: \DDL\Scripts\Administration Tools\Performance Counter Templates. The following performance monitor counter templates are available in Counter Templates\Always.
Accessory Tier Perf Template.xml
Database Tier Perf Template.xml
Interview Tier Perf Template.xml
Web Tier Perf Template.xml
To use these templates, import the template for the role that the computer performs. If a computer performs multiple roles, import the template for each role.
To import templates
1 Open Performance Monitor from the Administrative Tools section of the Start menu.
2 Under Data Collector Sets, right‑click User Defined, and then click New > Data Collector Set.
3 Specify a name for the data collector set, for example: “UNICOM Intelligence Accessory Tier”.
4 Make sure that Create from a template is selected.
5 On the next page, click Browse, and then select the template file. Use the default location for saving the data collector set.
6 On the last page, do one of the following:
To start the data collector immediately, click Start this data collector set now.
To start the data collector set later, click Save and close.
The initial sample interval for the data collector sets is 15 seconds. After you have tuned the system, you might want to increase the interval to collect less data.
