Checking that computers in a cluster can communicate with each other
Each computer in a cluster must be able to communicate with all the other computers in the same cluster. The easiest way to verify this is to use ping. This program sends a short stream of data from one computer to another and waits for the receiving computer to return the data.
1 On each computer in turn, open a DOS window, and then type the following command:
ping <computer_name>
where <computer_name> is the name of one of the computers in the cluster.
▪If lines starting “Reply from” appear, it means that the computers can communicate.
▪A “Request timed out” message means that the computers cannot communicate.
2 Repeat this step for each other computer in the cluster.
