Adding UNICOM Intelligence Professional users to the UNICOM Intelligence group
UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Server Admin and all the activities that run in it write log files to the folders named in the Directory setting in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SPSS\DimensionNet\Log
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SPSS\mrInterview\3\Log
in the registry.
The default for both keys is:
[INSTALL_FOLDER]\IBM\SPSS\DataCollection\7\Interviewer Server Administration\Logs
UNICOM Intelligence desktop applications such as UNICOM Intelligence Professional usually write their log files elsewhere.
If you install a mixture of UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Server Admin and desktop applications on a computer, it makes sense to have all the log files written to the same location, and the UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Server Admin Logs folder becomes the central location for all log files. The product installation programs deal with this automatically, but there might be times when you need to make some additional changes.
Any user who is a member of the UNICOM Intelligence group has permissions to write to files in the Logs folder. All UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Server Admin activities are run by the anonymous user. The anonymous user is a member of the UNICOM Intelligence group and therefore log messages can be written by all UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Server Admin activities. Desktop application users (for example, users of UNICOM Intelligence Professional) are not necessarily members of this group and might not have permission to write to the Logs folder. Therefore, you might sometimes need to add desktop users to the UNICOM Intelligence group. There are two situations when you must do this:
▪You install UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Server, UNICOM Intelligence Reporter - Survey Tabulation, or UNICOM Intelligence Reporter onto a computer that already has UNICOM Intelligence Professional installed. The installation procedure modifies the registry so that log files for all UNICOM Intelligence products go to:
[INSTALL_FOLDER]\IBM\SPSS\DataCollection\7\Interviewer Server Administration\Logs
▪You install UNICOM Intelligence Professionalonto a computer that already has UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Server, UNICOM Intelligence Reporter - Survey Tabulation, or UNICOM Intelligence Reporter installed. Since the UNICOM Intelligence Interviewer - Server Admin Logs folder is already set as the logging folder, the application's installation program does not change the registry settings.
