Checking that computers in a cluster can communicate with each other
Each computer in a cluster must be able to communicate with all the other computers in the same cluster. The easiest way to verify this is to use ping. This program sends a short stream of data from one computer to another and waits for the receiving computer to return the data.
1 On each computer in turn, open a DOS window and type ping computer_name where computer_name is the name of one of the computers in the cluster.
If the computers can communicate, you will see several lines starting 'Reply from' appear on your screen as the pinged computer returns the signal. If the computers cannot communicate you will see the message 'Request timed out'.
2 Repeat this step for each other computer in the cluster.
