This section describes how to install and set up a development environment so that you can develop applications that are based on the UNICOM^® Digital Transformation Toolkit (UDTT™).

The development environment must comply with the requirements listed in System requirements.

The following procedure describes how to prepare the workbench and runtime platform. Each functional unit is contained in its own JAR file to provide greater flexibility both in the development environment and in the runtime environment. Consider reviewing functional units, packages, and dependencies to decide which functional units you require to develop your application.

Note You can add or remove functional units at any time, but you must account for their corequisite functional units (that is, functional units that must also exist on the system at the same time).

There are two options for setting up a UDTT development environment:

▪ Install the UDTT integrated development environment (IDE) into a supported version of IBM Rational Application Developer (RAD) or another Eclipse IDE (see System requirements), and use this platform as your development environment, see Installing the UDTT IDE into an existing Eclipse IDE.

If you choose RAD, you can then use advanced J2EE and IBM WebSphere Application Server features in your applications.

Directories created by the installation program

The UDTT installation program creates the following directories on the target workstation:
