Creating a Quanvert database
Quick reference
To create a Quanvert database, type:
quantum –v [–pd dir_1] [–td dir_2] [prog_file] [data_file]
–v tells Quantum not to produce tables but, when it reaches the output stage, to run the flip program instead.
–pd and –td allow you to read files from, and create temporary files in, directories other than the directory in which you are running Quantum.
For more information about these options, see the Quantum User’s Manual.
More information
All Quanvert projects originate from Quantum. Although Quanvert produces tables identical to those generated by Quantum, it does not normally use the raw data and Quantum program files. Instead, it uses a series of compressed data and axis files, one pair per axis, derived from the Quantum files. These individual databases are referred to as inverted or transposed databases, and the process which creates them is called flipping. In databases with simple axes it is possible to run Quanvert almost immediately on the raw Quantum data.
Note There are many ways in which minor modifications to your Quantum program file can improve the content and usability of the Quanvert database. For a list of points to consider, see Preparing a study for Quanvert.
The flip process might run for some time so you might prefer to run it in the background or via the batch system.
