If you want to add variables to a database that is part of a multiproject database, and a variable of a particular name already exists in that database, the new data will not be merged with the old unless the two variables have the same number of elements. If they differ, a warning is issued and the axis is ignored. You can get around this restriction by deleting the variable from the database before you merge the new variables into the database.
