Getting Started : Installation of solidDB® server : Versioning and platform compatibility : Compatibility between versions

Compatibility between versions
Client
You can connect later solidDB® servers with earlier solidDB® clients, such as ODBC/JDBC. For example, you can use the solidDB® 7.0 client to connect to solidDB® 200.0. But, new functionality may not be supported with earlier clients.
Note You should update the clients when the solidDB® server is upgraded.
solidDB® HotStandby
solidDB® HotStandby can be upgraded from earlier major and minor versions using a hot migration procedure to avoid downtime.
Note Continued operation with mismatched server versions is not supported.
solidDB® API
You can use earlier solidDB® API levels with later solidDB® API implementations, but new functionality will not be available.
Cross platform compatibility
solidDB® clients and solidDB® servers are fully compatible between supported platforms. For example, you can connect solidDB® on AIX 64-bit (big-endian) to solidDB® on Windows 32-bit (little-endian).
solidDB® license files
solidDB® license files (.lic) are tied to a specific solidDB® version. When upgrading, you need to request a new license file from solidDB® client services.
