Building traceability between system functions, system nodes, and systems (ABM for DoDAF)
You can use a matrix to build traceability between System Functions, System Nodes, and Systems.
System Functions are related to System Nodes through the System Node to System Function matrix. The matrix is a “Text-in-cell” matrix, which enables you so specify text denoting the constraints of the relationship of a System Node to a System Function, but also more importantly, access the underlying definition of an intersecting cell by right-clicking on the cell and selecting Edit Cell Definition. In the case of this matrix, the 'join' definition is the SysNodeFunction definition. In this definition, you can specify the System Entities that perform the System Functions on the System Nodes.
1 Click View > Matrix Browser.
2 In the Matrix Browser, click DoDAF ABM.
3 Double-click the System Node to System Function (Leaf Only) matrix.
This graphic is described in the surrounding text.
4 To accept default filter settings, click Next, and then click Finish.
The matrix has a default filter set to show you only internal nodes and internal, leaf functions.
All defined functions and nodes are shown in the matrix.
5 Type X in a cell to make an association between an System Function or activity and a node.
This graphic is described in the surrounding text.
6 To link external functions with external nodes, double-click the System Node to System Activity (External Only) matrix, and then repeat the steps above.
