Systems are continually changing. Department/agencies invest considerable resources in keeping system profiles and portfolios up to date. iRMA includes several capabilities that can help minimize the effort required.
Two definitions are primary locations for reference model data: system and investment. The system definition data input pages and tabs describe the system’s profile and all reference models except for the primary sub-function, which is in the investment definition.
The data input pages and tabs describe the system’s profile and all reference models except for the primary sub-function, which is in the investment definition.
In this section of the tutorial, you will review and define system’s Reference Model and other EA definition properties.
To create a system definition
1 In the Encyclopedia Explorer, right‑click Definitions, and then click New.
2 Select System, and then click OK.
3 Name the Dictionary Object “DHHS application”, and then click Ok.
The System Definition comprises eight data input tabs (not including Reference Documents and Access Data which are common to all definition).
The Investment Tab depicts the Systems description, and the investment that funds the System.
In the previous section of this tutorial, you created an Investment definition named Investment A. You are going to attach the investment definition to the System.
4 In the Investment tab, click Choices.
The select and drag window appears, highlighting the investment definitions that were implemented in the encyclopedia.
5 Drag the Investment A definition to the System Funded by Investment definition field.
6 Click the Ownership tab.
The Ownership Tab shows the organization that owns the system. This data is entered through the Organization owns System matrix.
7 Click the Decomposition tab.
The Decomposition tab, Page 1 describes the subsystems, if any, that the system is composed of. If the system is due to be replaced in the future by another system, this can also be captured.
8 Click the arrow tab to scroll to the second page.
The Decomposition tab, Page 2 describes the technical components that the System uses. This data is entered through the System employs Technical Components matrix.
9 Click the Applications tab.
The Applications tab lists the applications that the system hosts, if any.
10 Click the BRM tab.
The BRM Tab lists the non-primary BRM sub-functions that the System supports (the primary BRM Sub-Function is entered in the corresponding investment definition. This data is entered through the System supports BRM Sub-Function matrix.
11 Click the SRM tab.
The SRM tab lists the SRM service components that the system is capable of delivering. This data is entered through the System is capable of delivering SRM Service Components matrix.
12 Click the TRM tab.
The TRM tab lists the TRM service components that the system is capable of delivering. This data is entered through the System implements TRM Service Specifications matrix.
13 Click the PRM tab.
The PRM tab lists the measured by measurement indicators (MMIs) that the System is measured by.
Later in the tutorial, you will create and define a Measured by Measurement Indicator, and attach it to the system definition.
