A server can be modeled as a physical machine that acts as a server of information on the network, or it might be modeled as a software application that provides these services, and is installed on a computer machine on the network. Use of the Server symbols provided on the Network Concept diagram will vary accordingly.
As a default, the following server symbols are provided on the Network Concept diagram:
Server
A computer that provides services to other computers, or the software that runs on it.
Access Server
An access server acts as a concentration point for dial-in and dial-out connections.
File Server
A computer that hosts files so that they can be accessed or retrieved by other computers on the same network.
Server with PC Router
A server with a PC router connected.
Terminal Server
A network server or a server operating system that provides a Windows or a Linux desktop user interface to other computers. Software programs installed to the Terminal Server can be run from the external machines as if they were installed on that machine itself.
Voice Enabled Access Server
A server equipped with voice recognition and text-to-speech technologies to enable users to access and navigate software on the server by the means of voice.
Web Server
A computer that serves up a website, accepting HTTP requests from web browser clients.
Advanced Network Symbols
If the "Advanced Network Symbols" switch is turned on in the Advanced dialog, the following additional types of icons will be available:
Microweb Server
An embedded web server that relies on a set of user-defined web pages to provide HTML network output.
SIP Proxy Server
A computer offering a network service following the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), to enable clients to make indirect network connections to other network services. A client connects to the SIP Proxy Server, then requests a connection to, or resources from, a different server.
Cisco Network Symbols
If the Cisco Network Symbols switch is turned on in the Advanced dialog (select Tools, Customize Method Support, Encyclopedia Configuration, and then select the Advanced button), the following additional types of icons become available:
