Specifying NCV-6 Capability to Operational Mapping matrices for NAF 3
You can specify the Operational Activities needed to produce Capabilities through the NCV-6 Capability to Operational Mapping matrix. When doing so, you specify how important the Operational Activity is in realizing the Capability: Critical, Important, Necessary, Non-Essential, or Low.
This view is used to show which elements of military capability can be utilized in support of specific operational activities by means of a mapping matrix. This can be regarded as a matrix of Standard Operational Activities to Capabilities (a Standard Operational Activity is not an Enduring Task).
1 Click View > Matrix Browser.
2 Click the NAF tab; then double-click NCV-6 Capability to Operational Mapping.
3 To filter the contents of the matrix that is generated, complete the matrix opening wizard; then click Next > Finish.
The Capability to Operational Mapping matrix opens. The following matrices also open:
•NSV-5 System Function to Operational Activity matrix
•NCV-5 Organizational Resource to Capability matrix
•Function to Resource matrix
4 Specify each Operational Activity that provides a Capability by selecting a status from the list of the cell intersecting the two definitions. When doing so, you specify how important the Operational Activity is in realizing the Capability: Critical, Important, Necessary, Non-Essential, or Low.
5 To reload the matrix, click Matrix > Reload.
Analytic colors are applied to the status levels, as shown in the following image.
6 Right-click a cell that has a status specified; then click Edit Cell Definition.
7 Notice that the cell is defined by a Capability/Operation definition. This cell definition holds the row (Capability) and column (Operational Activity) definitions, as well as other properties of the intersection, such as Status.
