Encyclopedia conversion
Network conversion
This procedure will convert a Single-User, ‘Merge’ Encyclopedia to an Encyclopedia for use with the network version of the product. A Network Log File will be created in the Encyclopedia Path. After conversion, you will not be able to open this encyclopedia with a Single-User version of the product.
Names conversion
System Architect supports names up to a maximum of 80 characters long, compared to the old limit of 31 characters. This conversion routine converts all underlying fields so that they can hold the additional characters. Existing names of symbols will not change. You will, after the conversion process is complete, be able to rename old names to new names that are up to 80 characters long.
Data modeling
Prepare your encyclopedia for conversion before running the conversion program. See the enclosed documents for details.
Models and subject areas
This conversion process converts all data models in the encyclopedia to “subject area” diagrams reporting to a default Model definition that is named Data Model. When the conversion process is complete, you can rename the Model, and/or create a “model” entity relation diagram.
Referential integrity
Improved referential integrity in System Architect enforces that a relationship line in a data model must be connected to a symbol at both ends. This conversion routine looks for lines that are drawn close to, but not connected to, symbols and connects them. Lines whose unconnected end is not close to any particular symbol are deleted.
In addition, this conversion process will convert or delete symbol types that are supported differently in System Architect’s data modeling.
