Maintaining the hierarchy between an ELH node and an ELH entity
Maintaining the hierarchy between symbols on the ELH diagram (ELH node to the ELH entity; node to node; event to node, and so on).
System Architect takes the responsibility for maintaining the hierarchical arrangement of the components; it draws the connection lines and determines where the symbols should be placed. You indicate the required structure by locating the child symbol near the underside of its intended parent.
The cross is displayed in the middle of the child symbol until it comes within the area of potential connection to the parent symbol. The cross is then displayed alongside the dotted line, that indicates where the final connection will be when you release the left mouse button.
This graphic is described in the surrounding text.
Other diagrams that use this type of auto-connection are the Menu Diagram and Auto-decomposition Diagram.
