The Explorer diagram in System Architect enables on-the-fly visual analysis of the architecture. You build the diagram by running SQL-query reports, to get a visual of what is related to what in the architecture.
There are two types of Explorer diagrams: Network and Landscape. On Network-style Explorer diagrams, a line represents either a direct or calculated relationship between two definitions.
Isolation Analysis
To create a quick Isolation Analysis of a particular element in the architecture:
1 Create an Explorer diagram of type Network.
2 Select-and-drag the definition from the Explorer tree onto the diagram.
3 Right-click the definition, and then select Show Immediate Relatives.
4 Select a related definition on the diagram and expand it, by also right-clicking on it and choosing Show Immediate Relatives.
5 Delete definitions and symbols from the diagram as you see fit – this will NOT affect the architecture – the Explorer diagram is simply a visual report of the architecture – similar to outputting the information to an Excel spreadsheet, but visualized.
In the example below, you can quickly see isolation analysis of the Search capability – what OperationalActivities enable it, and what Systems enable the OperationalActivities. Other relationships were deleted from the diagram to isolate on this view.
