Generating the encyclopedia Operation Data Source (ODS) schema is required for IBM Cognos to create the ODS database. When created, the ODS database is populated with encyclopedia data by the SA Data Retriever. The IBM Cognos Framework Manager is then used to create the packages required to generate business reports
The schema that you generate contains all the relationships among encyclopedia objects that you need to create effective reports, and reflects the current state of the encyclopedia’s metamodel. If you modify the encyclopedia’s metamodel, for example by adding new diagram or definition types through the USRPROPS extensibility mechanism, you must generate the ODS schema again to reflect changes to the metamodel.
1 Click Start, and select All Programs> UNICOM Systems > UNICOM Systems Lifecycle Solutions Tools> System Architect> SA Cognos Schema Generator.
2 In the SA Repository tab, enter values for the following fields:
Server Name
The SQL Server instance name where the encyclopedia resides.
Server Name
The encyclopedia for which you want to generate the ODS schema.
3 Click the Cognos ODS tab and enter your Repository and Authentication values in the following fields:
Server Type
Only SQL server types are presently supported.
Server Name
This is the server in which the ODS database will be created.
Database Name
Enter the name for the ODS database.
Authentication
Select your preferred Authentication method.
Windows Authentication uses your Windows credentials to log into the server.
SQL Server Authentication requires that you enter valid user name and passwords in the corresponding User Name and Password fields.
4 Click the Rest Service tab.
Port number field has the default port 8889. You can enter an alternative value. The port number is stored in the RestServiceConfiguration.xml file.
Start Service and Stop Service control the SA Rest Service, which must be started before you run the SA Data Retriever.
The Authentication area contains the Type, User Name and Password fields.
NTLM uses the default Windows authentication.
Basic uses the authentication mechanism provided by the REST Service. If you start the REST Service with Basic authentication, you should also select Basic authentication when you run the SA Schema Generator. When you chose Basic, you have to enter your User Name and Password. The credentials you enter are stored in the RestServiceConfiguration.xml file, which is also used by the SA Data Retriever to get encyclopedia data through the SA REST Service.
5 Click Generate Schema.
The SA Schema Generator creates the ODS schema for the selected encyclopedia. While the schema is being generated, status messages are displayed under the Generate Schema button. A confirmation dialog informs you when the System Architect schema is generated successfully, and provides the name and path of the XML configuration file that you need to use to configure your SA Data Retriever in the Windows scheduler.
