Working with ILAC in System Architect
In System Architect, when you create diagrams and definitions in an ILAC-enabled encyclopedia, System Architect needs to determine which Group will have access to those objects.
System Architect always displays a true representation of the current configuration for the encyclopedia in the ‘Default permitted to...’ dialog boxes. At the point of opening an encyclopedia these settings are read from the catalog, and any modifications made by the user are retained while that encyclopedia is open. In the catalog, if there are ILAC Group Defaults for Encyclopedia settings then these are used in preference over ILAC Group Default settings for the active user or for groups the active user is a member of. If no ILAC Groups have been configured in either of these nodes then the default Group assigned will be Everyone.
There are two possible configurations for ILAC Groups. By default, a group placed in one of these locations will have Read and Write permissions which means that by default that group will be set in the ‘Permitted to Read/Write’ property of a created item. A group with only Read permissions means that group will be set in the ‘Permitted to Read’ property of a created item.
System Architect always presents a true representation of the instance permissions for an item. On creation these are initialized according to the selections in the ‘Default permitted to...’ dialogs.
Selecting groups to work on objects in ILAC encyclopedias
The menu and dialog options referred to in the procedure below are only visible in System Architect if the ILAC option is enabled in the System Architect Catalog Manager. Also, if the Auto-define option for symbols has been turned off, the Edit Definition dialog is not automatically displayed when you draw a symbol.
To select groups from Edit dialogs
This method of selecting a group is the same for diagram or definitions.
1 Create new diagram.
2 Right-click on a blank area of the diagram and select Diagram Properties.
3 Click the Instance Permissions tab. The fields for the groups Permitted to Read and Permitted to Read/Write are each populated with default settings obtained from System Architect Catalog Manager.
4 Click Change to select groups other than the defaults. The image below shows a sample Edit Diagram properties dialog for a Entity Relation diagram Reservations.
This graphic is described in the surrounding text.
To select group(s) from Tools menu
Selecting a group to work on diagrams and definitions from the Tools, Access Control menu enables you to select default settings that will be applied to all objects that you create. In other words, instead of selecting a group each time you create an object, as described in the procedure above, you can choose the default groups that will be permitted to Read and permitted to Read and Write. Your choices will be applied automatically to each object you create.
The procedure below for selecting groups is the same whether you are choosing to permit Read or Read/Write permissions.
1 Click Tools, Access Control, and select Default Permitted to Read settings for new items. The dialog below is displayed:
This graphic is described in the surrounding text.
By default all groups are selected.
2 To change default selections, click on a group other than Everyone. Clicking on a group other than Everyone removes the check mark from the Everyone group as well.
3 Click on checkbox for each group that you want to permit to Read all new objects you create.
4 Click OK.
