Creation of a physical data model requires that a DBMS be selected; creation of a logical ER diagram does not require that a DBMS be selected, but one or more can be set.
When creating either a physical data model or a logical ER diagram, a drop-down list box is provided in the Diagram Open dialog to specify the DBMS type.
To set the DBMS type that this lists defaults to
1 From the Tools menu, select Customize Method Support, Default DBMS Type. The Select Default DBMS dialog appears.
2 Select the DBMS type you will primarily be working with.
3 Select Save if you want to have this setting remembered the next time you reopen this encyclopedia.
4 Click OK.
The default setting will immediately take effect. Unlike the Property Configuration settings, you do not have to reopen the encyclopedia for your Default DBMS Type selection to take effect.
