Straightening non-elliptical lines
Use Straighten Non-Elliptical Lines feature to straighten existing lines between diagram symbols.
The Straighten Non-Elliptical Lines option that you can use to straighten a line depends on the symbols the line is connecting.
If the non-line symbols are rectangular and the lines connecting them are at the symbol edge, use the automatic option.
For other cases, decide whether the line is to be straighten along the horizontal or vertical axis. Connection points will always be left at a valid position, if the wrong option is selected and the line will line remains as is. In order for the line to be straightened, there must be sufficient overlap in node symbol sizes so that a straight line drawn from one of the existing endpoints will intersect with the other symbol.
1 Select the line to be straighten and right‑click and select Straighten Non-Elliptical Lines.
2 Select one of these options.
Auto-Determine Line Direction
This option automatically straightens a line if possible. This option works when the non-line symbols are rectangular and the lines connecting them are at the symbol edge.
Straighten Horizontally
Straightens a line along the horizontal axis.
Straighten Vertically
Straightens a line along the vertical axis.
The following example, shows a diagram where there is sufficient room to allow a horizontal line to be drawn between the two nodes at one of the existing endpoints. In this case, use Auto-Determine Line Direction to straighten the line.

When symbols do not overlap to the extent of one of the existing endpoints, the line cannot be straighten. Using Straighten Non-Elliptical Lines does not change the line.

To straighten lines between elliptical symbols, pick an axis, and only the appropriate axis produces a change. If the first endpoint cannot be extended then the other is tested.

Straightening cannot be achieved if a node connection cannot be made at the requested point. Below is from a Flow Chart diagram, where connections on these symbols can only be made at the four points.
