Optional step – using SAEM to attach the encyclopedia
This topic describes how to attach the Simulation_Tutorial encyclopedia to your server using System Architect Encyclopedia Manager (SAEM). You perform these steps only if you purposely specified for the System Architect Startup Wizard to not attach the Tutorial encyclopedia to your server when you installed the tool.
Start SAEM
To start SAEM:
From the menu Start > All Programs > UNICOM Systems > UNICOM Systems Lifecycle Solutions, run SAEM (SQL Server).
Connecting to SQL Express or SQL Server
In order for SAEM to work properly you need to be connected to either an instance of SQL Express, SQL Server 2000, or SQL Server 2005.
Logging into a SQL server
1 In the SAEM window, click Server > Connect.

2 In the Connect to Server dialog, click the Available SQL Servers drop-down and select a server. Although the list might display multiple servers on the network, you can only connect to those servers for which you have been granted access.
3 Select an Authentication method. The options are:
Windows NT – uses the User Name and Password that you entered to log onto Windows.
SQL Server – some SQL Servers environments might require that in addition to your Windows NT login, you provide separate SQL User Name and Password.
4 Click the checkbox Save connection information for SAEM to store the server and authentication method you chose to login.

5 Click Login. The SAEM window Status Bar displays, from left to right, the server you are connected to, the SQL Server or SQL Express instance you are connected to, and your domain and user name. A Task Pane is defaulted to the left-side of SAEM. You can close this by selecting the x on the upper right-side of the Recent tab or by selecting Help > Task Pane. The Task Pane enables you to view your recent activities.

Attaching a database
Now that you have logged into SAEM, you are ready to attach a database.

2 In the Attach a Database dialog, click the  (browse) button, and then navigate to the directory <C>:\Program Files (x86)\UNICOM Systems\System Architect Suite\System Architect\Encyclopedias\Witness. Select the Simulation_Tutorial.mdf file, and then click Open.
3 Back in the Attach a Database dialog, in the Attach as text box, type Simulation_Tutorial.

4 Click the Attach button to attach the pre-built Simulation_Tutorial encyclopedia to your server. You can now begin work.
5 Select Server > Exit to close SAEM.
Opening the encyclopedia in System Architect
Now that you have attached the Simulation_Tutorial encyclopedia to your server, you are ready to open it in System Architect.
1 In System Architect, select File > Open Encyclopedia. In the Open Encyclopedia dialog, select the Existing tab.
2 In the Connection property, choose your local server from the drop-down list. This will provide you with a list of encyclopedias that are connected to your server. The Connection acts as a pointer between the sever and the encyclopedia (database) that you are opening/creating.
3 Select Simulation_Tutorial in the Encyclopedias on connection property and select OK. You can toggle ‘on’ Open this encyclopedia at start up. This will make this encyclopedia the default encyclopedia that will automatically open each time you start System Architect.
