12. Assigning Time Profiles
We must now specify how much time it takes to do a job. We specify Time Profiles in the process symbol. Time Profiles have already been created in the encyclopedia we are working in.
1 Open the definition of the process symbol Analyze Order by double-clicking on it; alternatively, right-click it and select Edit from the floating menu.
2 Select the Sim Process tab.
3 Go to Page 2 to find the Service Time Profile group.
4 Select the Choices button to reveal existing Time Profiles. Select Analyze and drag and drop it into the Service Time Profile grid.
This graphic is described in the surrounding text.
Notes
a This Service Time Profile, called Analyze, specifies a Constant value type of 10 minutes. That means that it takes 10 minutes to do this job – analyze an order. We could specify other time distributions in the definition of the Service Time Profile.
b A Constant value type of 10 minutes means that the job performed – analyzing an order – takes 10 minutes. It is important to remember this. You are not specifying that 10 orders get analyzed per minute, you are specifying that it takes 10 minutes to analyze an order (or that you can analyze six per hour).
