2. Assigning objects to events
We do not want to create a new object in our example – we already have an Order object. We want to pass down the Order object from the parent diagram to the child diagram. To do this we need to inherit the Order object from the parent diagram.
1 Open the ‘Check Order event symbol’s definition’ dialog.
2 Select the Sim Event tab.
3 By default, the Inherit (Generate) check box is toggled ‘on’. This option allows the event to inherit the objects from the parent diagram and will not generate any new objects.
4 In the Generated Entities property field, select the Choices button. The Select and Drag dialog will appear to reveal the IDEF3 Objects that are available.
5 Highlight the Order object and drag it into the Generated Entities property box.

6 Close the Select and Drag dialog and press OK to accept the change made to the Event Symbol.
We are almost ready to run the simulation process.
