Configuring encyclopedias for NAF
To build an architecture using the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Architectural Framework (NAF), you need to turn on the particular NAF framework you want to use. System Architect supports:
NAF v4.
NAF v3.
NAF v1.
To configure an encyclopedia for NAF
1 Create an encyclopedia by selecting File > Open Encyclopedia.
2 In the Encyclopedia Configuration dialog that comes up, select the NAF framework version you want to use from the list of Frameworks.
NAF 4 is the latest version of the framework that System Architect supports. It provides a data-centric approach to architecture based on the UAF Domain Meta-model (DMM).
The NAF 3 support is an older, loosely-coupled architecture metamodel approach that features IDEF diagrams. If you choose NAF 3 then you must complete these steps:
a Select IDEF0 and IDEF3 in the Business Modeling section of the Encyclopedia Configuration dialog.
b Select the Advanced button, and make sure that the Struct as Entity data choice property is shown in the Select Property Sets list.
c Select the version of the NAF framework you want to use from the list of Frameworks.
3 Click OK to all dialogs to continue creating the encyclopedia.
At any time, you can check to see if the NAF framework is selected by choosing Tools > Customize Method Support > Encyclopedia Configuration. It is not advised to change from one framework to another after initial creation of an encyclopedia using a particular framework.
