Linking diagrams or definitions to external resources
By linking diagrams or definitions to resources in other products, you can see those resources from within the diagrams and open them by using the products in which they reside. Whether you link to work items in IBM Rational Team Concert, to requirements in IBM Rational DOORS Web Access, or to other products, the linking process is similar.
The options to link a diagram to resources is available after you add servers and collaboration links to the encyclopedia. The resource types that you can link to are determined by the servers and collaboration links that you establish.
1 In System Architect, open the diagram to link to a resource.
•To link the diagram, right-click an empty space in the diagram.
•To link a symbol, right-click the symbol.
You can also select diagrams or symbols from Explore context menus to link them to resources.
2 Click Link to <artifact type>, where <artifact type> is a resource to which you can link. For example, the options Link to Work Item, Link to Architecture and Link to Requirement are available when you have established collaboration links to servers that contain those artifact types.
3 In the Create Link dialog box, select an existing artifact or create a new one.
4 Click Select, and then click OK.
The System Architect diagram or symbol that you linked to an external resource now displays an outbound indicator, on the diagram and the Explorer.
Move the pointer over the outbound indicator to show additional detail, which is provided by the product the artifact is linked to. Click Details in the hover dialog to open the artifact in a browser.
You can remove links from the diagram, symbol and the Explorer context menus.
