The encyclopedia already contains a number of (BPMN) Business Process Flow diagrams. Typically, when you are simulating the business process diagrams in your organization, you will not be simulating them all at once – you will typically isolate particular flows and simulate them so that you can see how adjustments to variables will affect the flow. You need to ask yourself the question, what are you trying to simulate – what parts of the Process Flow are you trying to understand better.
In our example, we will simulate the Reservations process.
A diagram that has been built to show a business process workflow is not necessarily ready for simulation. You not only need to specify simulation properties for the diagram, but you may also need to add to the model diagrammatically to add the necessary details to properly simulate it. For our example, we will create a new diagram based on the one above, but is just for simulation. It may contain details – in the form of extra Gateways – that you might not want represented in the basic workflow.
