Introduction to data modeling with System Architect
System Architect supports database design with logical data models and physical data models. An encyclopedia may contain multiple project data models, each of which may have a logical model diagram, multiple logical subject area diagrams, and multiple physical diagrams.
For more information, see Introduction to data modeling with System Architect.
The standard data dictionary
A System Architect encyclopedia is based on a standard data dictionary. Some of the objects in that dictionary can be used for all of your modeling activities, thus ensuring that the definitions used throughout your modeling activities are consistent.
For more information, see The standard data dictionary.
The project data model
System Architect provides the capability to build multiple project data models in a single project encyclopedia. Each Project Data Model can consist of a Model diagram and one or more Subject Area diagrams. Models and subject area diagrams are always either components of an Entity Relation Diagram (ERD) or IDEF1X diagrams. For more information, see The project data model.
Components of an entity relation diagram
For more information, see Components of an entity relation diagram.
The physical data model
The Physical Data Model (PDM) depicts the designed system as targeted to a specific database.
For more information, see The physical data model.
