Identifying and decomposing system functions (ABM for DoDAF)
In this step of the ABM, you create a hierarchy of System Functions in an SV-4 Functional Decomposition diagram.
Prerequisite
Before you begin drawing the SV-4 Functional Decomposition diagram, you should enable automatic numbering.
1 Click Tools > Preferences.
2 In the Preferences dialog box, verify that Number is selected in the left column.
Procedure
1 Click File > New Diagram.
2 In the Select New Type for All Methods dialog box, double-click SV-4 Functional Decomposition.
3 In the New Diagram dialog box, type a name for the diagram; then click OK.
4 Draw system functions and other shapes on the diagram, representing the hierarchy of System Functions.
5 Once you have drawn a symbol, you can specify the numbering scheme that will be applied to system functions that you draw on the diagram. To specify the recommended numbering scheme, do this:
Click Format > Symbol Format > Symbol Style.
In the Symbol Style dialog box, specify Next Number as 1, and Prefix Code as A.
