3: Align technical components with the TRM
You can use matrices to align your architecture with the TRM.
Map your technical components to technology
A Technical Component is a product used in your architecture, for example System Architect. An example of a technology is Windows or .NET Framework.
1 Select View > Matrix Browser.
2 In the Matrix Browser dialog, select the red star that shows the matrices for Integrated Reference Model Architect (iRMA).
3 Select the Technical Component implements Technology matrix. Click Next and Finish in the filter dialogs to open the matrix.
4 Click intersecting cells to align technical Components with technologies. This matrix is an “x-in-cell” matrix: click a cell to put an x in it.
Map your technical components to systems
You can align systems in your architecture with technical components (products) that they employ.
1 Select View > Matrix Browser.
2 In the Matrix Browser dialog, select the red star that shows the matrices for Integrated Reference Model Architect (iRMA).
3 Select the System employs Technical Components matrix. Click Next and Finish in the ensuing filter dialogs to open the matrix.
4 Click intersecting cells to align technical components with technologies. This matrix is an “x-in-cell” matrix: click a cell to put an x in it.
Specify vendors that provide technical components
You can specify vendors that provide technical components (products) via a matrix.
1 Select View > Matrix Browser.
2 In the Matrix Browser dialog, select the red star that shows the matrices for Integrated Reference Model Architect (iRMA).
3 Select the Vendor provides Technical Components matrix. Click Next and Finish in the ensuing filter dialogs to open the matrix.
4 Click intersecting cells to specify what vendor provides what technical components.
This matrix is a “text-in-cell' matrix”. You can specify text describing how the vendor supports the product for you: for example, makes the product, sells the product (some vendors make a product but another vendor will sell it), provides services for the product, etc.
5 You can open the definition of a technical component to view the vendor that you have associated with it. This information is on the Usage & Support tab of the technical component definition.
