What is New in NAF v4
There are several new features in NAF v4, they include:
Adoption of commercial meta-models.
A Grid representation of Viewpoints.
An Architecture Methodology.
Adoption of Commercial Meta-Models
NAF v4 specifies that NAF-compliant architectures can be creating using the following meta-models:
The Object Management Group’s (OMG’s) Unified Architect Framework (UAF) Domain Meta-model (DMM), or
The Open Group’s ArchiMate metamodel.
In System Architect, NAF 4 is provided using the UAF underlying metamodel.
Viewpoints
NAF v4 provides a graphic overview of its Viewpoints.
NAF v4 provides the following viewpoints:
Concepts (C) – similar to the Capability NCV viewpoint of NAF v3.
Service (S) – similar to the Service-Oriented NSOV viewpoint of NAF v3.
Logical (L) – similar to the Operational NOV viewpoint of NAF v3.
Physical Resource (P) – similar to the Systems NSV viewpoint of NAF v3.
Architecture Meta-Data (A) – similar to the All Views NAV of NAF v3.
NAF v4 Architecture Methodology
The NAF v4 architecture methodology is detailed in the NAF v4 specification document and is not repeated here.
