Generating NSV-5 Operational Activity to System Function Traceability Matrix reports for NAF
The System Function to Operational Activity matrix provides a link between the operational and systems architecture views. The matrix depicts the mapping of operational activities to system functions, and identifies the transformation of an operational need into a purposeful action that a system component performs.
Depending on the purpose of the architecture, the System Function to Operational Activity matrix can have automated and manual resource functions identified and mapped to the operational activities:
Resource functions associated with material items, such as processing hardware, software, or data, and that are mapped to an activity identify automated activities
However, activities that are mapped to systems functions that are associated with the human component of the system constitute the manually oriented activities
The relationship between operational activities and systems functions can be expected to be “many-to-many;” that is, multiple system functions can support one activity, and one system function typically supports multiple activities.
1 Click View > Matrix Browser.
2 On the NAF icon, double-click NSV-5 System Function to Operational Activities.
3 In the Specify Filters dialog box, click Next.
4 In the Choose Matrix Contents dialog box, click Finish to select all the items to be shown in the matrix.
The report is displayed.
5 Assign the appropriate relationships between the System Functions and Operational Activity.
