Each of the defense frameworks specified has a prefix nomenclature for views of the architecture, which differ from one another – for example, DoDAF’s OV-5 (Operational View #5 – for modeling the operational activities of an organization) is called MOV-5 in MODAF, and NOV-5 in NAF. UAF provides a new framework-agnostic set of view prefixes and names. The Operational viewpoint for modeling Activities is called Op-Pr Operational View – Processes.
Removing the numbers from the prefixes is also intended to make the UAF more amenable to enterprise architecture in the commercial industry – as architects do not need to know the nuances of what an OV-5 is versus a SV-1, for example.
UAF provides the following changes to DoDAF 2.02:
▪The Capability viewpoint of DoDAF 2.02 has been renamed to the Strategic viewpoint.
▪The Systems viewpoint has been renamed to the Resources viewpoint.
▪Data models – which had been broken out into their own viewpoint in DoDAF 2.02 (DIV-1, DIV-2, and DIV-3) – are now redistributed back into their respective viewpoint (the logical data model is now an Op-If Operational Information view; the physical data model is now a Rs-If Resource Information view.
▪The concept of Personnel has been provided with its own viewpoint – the Personnel viewpoint – which includes the Org Chart (Pr-Tx Personnel Taxonomy – the OV-4 in DoDAF 2.02) amongst other views.
▪A Security viewpoint has been introduced (incorporating the Canadian DNDAF security metamodel).
