Explorer – Heatmap Analysis
The Explorer diagram in System Architect enables on-the-fly visual analysis of the architecture. You build the diagram by running SQL-query reports, to get a visual of what is related to what in the architecture.
There are two types of Explorer diagrams: Network and Landscape. On Landscape-style Explorer diagrams, definitions are placed inside other definitions to represent either a direct or calculated relationship between two definitions. (For example – if a Capability is enabled by an Activity that is enabled by a System, you can auto-build a diagram to show Capabilities, and the Systems that indirectly enable them.)
Landscape Heatmap Analysis
You build a Landscape Heatmap using the Explorer diagram of type Landscape. The general steps are:
1 Drag-and-drop (or run an Explorer Object report to find) the outermost definitions on the diagram (in the example below, Capability).
2 Run an Explorer Relationship report to put pertinent definition types inside the outer definition type (in the example below, a report that gets Capability related to Activity related to System). You can run more than one Explorer Relationship report – tunneling more than one level (boxes inside boxes inside boxes).
3 Run one or more Analytics to color each symbol or put an icon next to each symbol based on the output of a report.
Note The following options are available in the automatic building of a Landscape Explorer diagram:
Diagram Properties: In the Diagram Properties of the Explorer Landscape diagram, you can specify how many columns of symbols to place inside another symbol, and the spacing between symbols on the diagram (to allow for analytic icons to not overlap into another symbol).
Analytic Properties: Analytics created can be edited by opening its definition in the Explorer tree. You may specify that it is represented by an icon, and the positioning of that icon on the symbol (for example – Top, Right, On Edge).
