Focal Point® profiles overview
Focal Point® profile definitions are used to export data to Focal Point®. Focal Point® profile definitions are created differently than standard System Architect definitions. They are populated with the data that you enter when you create a new profile, in the SA-Focal Point® window. The definitions listed on the Explorer are read-only if you view them with the definition editor. The Explorer has a Focal Point tab, containing the nodes for the Focal Point® mapping and Focal Point® profile definitions.
A default Focal Point® profile named Application Portfolio Management is provided. The Focal Point® profile definition internally references reports that are tailored to get criteria and data separately. For criteria, the reports extract data from Enterprise Direction diagram containing Business Objective definitions. The properties of Business Objective definition include:
GUID
Name
Description
For data, the reports extract data from the Application definition. The properties of the Application definition extracted include:
GUID which is mandatory
Name
In Service Date
Effective Date
Perpetual License Cost
Yearly Rental Cost
Yearly Maintenance Cost
Build Cost
Vendor
Any text that is in the Description property is transferred to FP, and shown as the question corresponding to the Business Objective criteria. If there is no description provided, the default Focal Point® question displays to user.
Note The Samples Encyclopedia has a host of Application definitions and Business objectives, that may be of helpful to understand the real-life application of SA-FP integration.
Additionally, the Focal Point® profile definition stores the following information:
The URL for the Focal Point® web service. The export operation consumes the web service 1.0 on the server. This URL is unique for an encyclopedia, and any update to the URL from a profile updates all such fields in all profile definition instances.
Information about workspace (parent container of views in Focal Point®) and views (placeholder of elements for criteria and data exported).
Information about columns or fields (named System Architect properties used in the user interface) used in each of the reports both criteria and data.
Information about columns available in Focal Point® (named attributes) from the Focal Point® views selected for criteria and data separately. This is mapped to System Architect properties available from reports.
Information about mapping the System Architect properties with Focal Point® properties, stored in a separate definition type named “Focal Point Mapping.”
Note If you created profiles on an encyclopedia created with earlier System Architect versions, a dialog will prompt you to upgrade your profiles, including the default profile, named “Application Portfolio Management.” Upgrading replaces the existing profile, and any changes to it are lost. Analytic definitions for Heat Map visualizations are also upgraded.
