Overview of System Architect
System Architect is an enterprise architecture tool, that you can use to visualize, analyze, and communicate all aspects of an enterprise architecture by applying industry-standard frameworks, notations, and methods. After you capture and understand an architecture, you can plan and implement its future improvements intelligently.
You can use System Architect to create various diagrams to visualize and analyze enterprise architectures by using different layouts, presentations, and reports. All project information is stored in a multiple-user repository, and you can extend the product by using its underlying metamodel. Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications is built into the product so that you can customize System Architect.
Through the product reporting system you can generate reports in XML, HTML, or Microsoft Word format. You can use System Architect Publisher Add On to generate a static website of an enterprise architecture. System Architect XT provides a thin browser alternative to access the repository in both read mode and write mode. IBM Cognos integrates with System Architect so that you can run business intelligence reports on architecture information.

System Architect integrates with several other UNICOM Systems, Inc. and IBM Rational products so that you can easily gather existing information in your enterprise, analyze it, and create dashboards to communicate that information to a large audience. For example, System Architect integrates with the following products:
UNICOM Systems, Inc. Focal Point to apply decision-based architecture planning
IBM Rational Asset Manager to manage external files that the architecture references
IBM Rational DOORS to manage requirements
IBM Rational Rhapsody to develop embedded systems
IBM Rational Software Architect to develop software systems
IBM Tivoli software to harvest network architectures
In addition, System Architect provides add-on features that you can use with external products, such as Microsoft Visio, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems such as SAP, Siebel, and others.
