Encyclopedia types
System Architect Catalog Manager and System Architect distinguish between encyclopedias attached to a catalog and not attached to a catalog. If attached to a catalog, an encyclopedia is of the type enterprise; if not attached, it is of the type professional. There are no structural or functional differences between the types, and they can be changed from catalogued to non-catalogued by attaching or detaching them from a catalog.
Enterprise encyclopedias
Enterprise encyclopedias are attached to catalogs on the same servers. As such, you can control access to diagrams, definitions, System Architect menu commands macro execution permissions. Additionally, if you turn on the ILAC option, you can control access to individual instances of diagram and definition types.
Attaching encyclopedias to a catalog is optional. When you create a catalog on a server, SACM does not automatically attach encyclopedias on the server on which you create a catalog. An enterprise encyclopedia cannot be attached to more than one catalog, and it can only be attached to a catalog on the same server where it is located.
Encyclopedias can contain workspaces. If an encyclopedia with workspaces is attached to a catalog, SACM permits you to manage role-based permissions on the workspace level. If you do not configure a workspace with a role or a user, the workspace inherits the permissions set on its parent workspace.
Professional encyclopedias
By definition, professional type encyclopedias are not attached to a catalog, and therefore are not subject to access control as provided by SACM. Menu visibility and macro execution rights are also outside the scope of SACM for professional encyclopedias.
