Lesson 2.7: Include data elements by querying “is a” relationships
Use the "Is A" relationship to get the data element underlying each attribute.
In the metamodel, an attribute is an instance of a data element–there is an 'Is a' relationship between them. Use this relationship to query the encyclopedia for data elements.
To use an "Is A" relationship
1 Use the scroll bar to make the next level of the report visible.
2 Click the drop-down list in the Add Report dialog. Select instances of("is a") Definitions.
3 Click on Where... on the instances of ["is a"] Definition line. Notice how the only definition types available are Data Elements and Data Structures, and they are already selected (since by default all definition types are selected).
4 Click OK to close this dialog.
5 Click Properties to Print, on the instances of ["is a"] Definition line, to open the Select Properties to Print dialog.
6 Select Name and Data Type from the Available Properties list, and then click Add. Name and Data Type <-- SQL Data Type are sent over to the Properties to Print list.
7 Select Name in the Properties to Print list to activate the "Name" formatting property field at the bottom of the dialog. Type in Data Element/Structure Name in the Label property box.
8 Click OK to close the Select Definition Properties to Print dialog.
