A dynamic view is rendered by running one or more dynamic view reports. Each report is essentially a query that gets the diagrams or definitions that you specify and displays them in a view. When more than one Dynamic View Report is linked to a Dynamic View, the result set is the union of the reports. When the view is refreshed, all Dynamic View Reports are executed.
To create a dynamic view
1 Click the Pane where you want to create the dynamic view.
2 Click the Create static or dynamic view button. The Dictionary Object dialog is displayed.
3 Click Dynamic in the View Type field.
4 Click the Dynamic View tab.
The steps that follow are for adding a new report.
5 In the Dynamic View Reports field, type a report name. (You can also click Choices to select existing dynamic view reports.)
6 Click Add.
The report name is added to the list of the Dynamic View Reports.
7 Click Define to select the objects to display in your View.
At this point, you are editing the Dynamic View Reports definition to run in your View. Since the Content field is still empty, you need to select the objects for the View.
8 Click Edit Content.
The Edit Dynamic View Report dialog appears.
9 Select from the diagrams or definitions for your view. For example, the report below will show "Entity Relation" diagrams in the view. Click Draft to see the list of objects returned by the report, shown in the System Architect application workspace.
10 Click OK.
The Content field now contains the report criteria that you selected, with the syntax of the internal reporting system. To find out how long the report takes to run, click Performance. The estimated execution time (in seconds) is shown.
11 Click OK.
The view is displayed in the pane in which you created it.
